Thursday, 11th June
Meeting. – There will be a Diocese meeting in the Chantry Hall on Thursday between 9.30am-4pm.
Knit and Natter. - Come along for a coffee with others who enjoy knitting to the Golden Tortoise in Sussex Street from 1pm on Thursday. If interested, speak to Janet.
U3A walk. – There will be a 4.8 mile scenic walk across fields from Leyburn to Wensley and back on Thursday with Sally. There will be time for a short look at the historic church. Please park in Tennants for a 10.30am start and let Sally know if you want lunch in Tennants.
Prostate Cancer. – Five members of Bedale Football Club embark on Thursday on their 146 mile cycle ride from London to Amsterdam to raise money for the Men United event for Prostate Cancer. Donations can be made via www.justgiving.com/H-Martyn-Coombs.
Friday, 12th June
Skills advisor. – The learning skills advisor will be available to give free advice to parents thinking of getting back into education or finding employment in the children’s centre behind Bedale Hall between 9.30am-2.30pm today.
Scout and guides. - The beavers meet tonight between 5-6pm and on Sunday, the explorer scouts meet between 7-9pm. The brownies meet on Tuesday between 5.45-7pm and the scouts between 7.30-9.15pm. The rainbows meet on Wednesday between 5.30-6.45pm followed by the cubs between 6.30-8pm and on Thursday the guides and senior guides meet between 7-8.30pm. All the units of the scout and guide group meet in the new headquarters in Emgate.
Storytime. - at Bedale Library this afternoon between 2.15-2.45pm. Come and hear stories read by library staff with activities and colouring.
Auction. - The next Darwin’s sale at The Dales Furniture Hall on Bridge Street is this morning with viewing at 9am and the auction at 10.30am. For more details telephone 01677 422846.
Golf Club. – On Sunday it is the Rabbits Armstrong Millennium Bowl and on Monday the men’s B team host Ripon and it is also the Rabbits Armstrong Millennium Bowl. Tuesday is the men’s Red Cross No 9 and on Wednesday it is the men’s captains outing and the ladies medal competition. On Thursday there will be a men’s Stableford competition.
Cricket. – In the Darlington Building Society North Yorkshire and South Durham League division 3 at 1pm, Bedale are away to Newton Aycliffe CC 2nd team. At 1pm in the Theakston’s Nidderdale cricket league division 8, Bedale 2nds are at home to Hampsthwaite CC 3rd team at BASA. On Wednesday at 6.30pm in the Bolton Arms evening cricket league division 2, Thorp Perrow CC are at home to Thornton Watlass CC.
Saturday, 13th June
Coffee morning. – There will be a coffee morning in the Chantry Hall between 10am-1pm in aid of the Chernobyl Children’s Project.
Brass band. – The Bedale Brass Band will be performing at Bedale Park for the Scout and Guide Gala, at The Millings for an outdoor service on Sunday June 28, at Crakehall for an outdoor service on Sunday July 5, at Snape for the annual show on Monday August 31, at Great Smeaton for the Smeaton Feast on Sunday September 13, in the market place for the Christmas tree lights switch-on on Saturday November 28 and at Middleham church for a carol concert on Friday December 18. There will also be a collection at Catterick Racecourse on Sunday September 20 and the car boot sale ion the park on Saturday October 3.
Bowling society. – The grass cutting this week at the bowling green in Wycar will be undertaken by Brian Taylor and Ron Dean. At 1.45pm today, The Bateson league team (contact Peter on 01609 779063 or Gerald) play Leyburn at home and on Tuesday, the gentlemen’s veterans team (Malcolm on 01677 426211 or Tony) commence at 2pm against Middleton St George away. On Wednesday at 6.30pm the JSW league team (contact Julian on 01677 424833 or Elaine on 01609 760427) play Masham at home and on Thursday at 1.30pm, the ladies league team (contact Barbara on 01609 779063 or Sue) play their team knock out 1st round. On Tuesday, there is a triples friendly game (contact Shirley on 01609 778102 or Roland on 01677 424877) away to Ripon at 6.30pm and on Thursday a triples friendly away to West Tanfield at 6.30pm.
Car Boot. - The fourteenth car boot sale of the season takes place today in Bedale Park in aid of the Bedale Scout Festival.
Scout and Guide Gala. - The Bedale Scout and Guide group will hold their annual festival today at Bedale Park. The parade will leave the Benkhill Drive bus park at 11am with the winning float awarded the ‘Ray Calvert Trophy’. There will be a car boot sale, a travelling fair, displays, refreshments, fire engines, the Wensleydale Railway, martial arts demonstrations, dance display, circus skills, dance workshop, dog display and fundraising stalls.
Methodist Church. – There will be a coffee morning with bacon sandwiches and toasted tea-cakes between 10-noon at the Wycar chapel.There will be a concert tomorrow at 7pm in church featuring the Thornton Watlass Choral Group with special guests Neil and Sarah Harland. There will be a collection for church funds. On Sunday, the Rev Barry Lumley will lead the church anniversary celebrations at 10.30am.
Sunday, 14th June
St Gregory's Church. – On Sunday there will be a worship at ten service at 10am. The service will be followed by refreshments in the Chantry Hall. There will also be an evening prayer service at 6.30pm. Holy Communion is also celebrated at 8.30am on Monday with a BCP holy communion at 10am on Thursday.
Christian Fellowship. – There will be a Gospel service in the Chantry Hall on Sunday between 3-4.30pm. Everyone is welcometo attend.
Monday, 15th June
French conversation. – The next U3A group meeting is on Monday at 10am at the Bailey’s.
Singing for Pleasure. – The Bedale Singing for Pleasure group meet on Monday in Burneston primary school hall at 7.15pm for 7.30pm. The cost is £2 per session and everyone of whatever ability, are welcome to attend. For further details contact Jan on 01677 427261 or Brian on 01677 422220.
Bowling society. – There will be a domino drive in the clubhouse on Monday at 1.30pm costing £2 to include tea and biscuits.
Heart group. - The heart support group aerobics and fitness session for any male or female who has had any difficulties in the past or want to prevent heart problems in the future will meet on Monday in the Chantry Hall between 10-11am. The cost is £3.50.
Sharks. – The sharks are a friendly club catering for swimmers and water polo players of all ages and abilities with over 100 members ranging from the age of 6 through to adult. The swimming club trains 4 times a week in different sessions depending on ability. The main base is the leisure centre swimming pool. Tuesday, 16th June
Summer fair. – The annual summer fare will be held in the Dales-Care centre on Tuesday at 1.15pm.
Slimming. – Slimming World will meet in Bedale Hall on Tuesday at 3.30pm, 5.30pm and 7.30pm. For more information contact Elaine on 07780 602580. WeightWatchers will meet on Wednesday at 6pm. If interested, contact Susan on 0845 677 7788.
Craft Fair. - will be held in the Chantry Hall on behalf of St Gregory’s Church between 10am-3pm on Tuesday. Stalls should include jewellery, greeting cards, knitted scarves, gloves, novelty items, tote bags, hand-made soaps, wood turning items and cushion covers. Light refreshments are available and admission is free.
Wednesday, 17th June
Coffee Club. – The next meeting of the Bedale and District Ladies Coffee Club will take place on Wednesday at the new time of 7.30pm at The Lodge at Leeming Bar Motel. Spanish. – The Bedale U3A ‘Spanish Plus’ course will be on Wednesday between 2.30-3.45pm at Grange Road with Pauline. For more information call 01677 425537.
Dales-Care. - There will be bingo on Wednesday afternoon starting at 1pm and an art class on a Thursday morning from 9.30am. The centre continues to look for day centre volunteers and administrative volunteers who would be willing to assist in the office or with the centre making teas and coffees, chatting to clients, playing games and serving lunches. U3A meeting. – There will be a meeting on Wednesday in the Chantry Hall at 10.15am for a 10.30am start for all Bedale U3A members when Chris Powell will talk about ‘trash to treasure.’ Entry is £1 which includes coffee.
Thursday, 18th June
Art class. – An over 60’s art class with tuition from Walter Parker will take place in the Dales-Care Centre in Wycar on Thursday between 10-11.30am. There is limited availability and the cost is £2 per session including coffee and biscuits. For more information contact 01677 426089.
U3A walk. – On Thursday there will be a beautiful 7.5 mile walk with Freda starting at the Aysgarth National Park car park (about £4.50) at 10.30am. The walk will follow the Oxclose and Carperby route. Bridge. – The U3A bridge club will meet in Bedale bowling club on Thursday between 2-4.30pm. For more details contact Pauline on 01677 424434.

Walking for health. – There will be a free 30 minute-1 hour walk from the leisure centre on Thursday at 10.15am for a 10.30am start organised by the Hambleton Strollers. The walk is ideal for beginners or new walkers and will be over flat land with a leader and will finish back at the centre with a cup of coffee. If interested, simply turn up on the day or pick up a leaflet at GP surgeries, tourist points, libraries, Hambleton Council offices or call 01609 771624 for more information.

WI - New WI opening in Bedale. If you are interested come along to the Drawing Room at Bedale Hall on Thursday 25th June 2015. There are two sessions 2pm to 4pm and then 7:30 pm to 9:30pm. Drop in and see what the WI is all about.
