About Bedale Town Council

The Bedale Town Council welcomes all visitors to this site and hopes it is informative and helpful.
The Town Council serves the Bedale community as the first tier of local government. It is an elected body with statutory and discretionary powers and rights to represent the community and provide services to it.
The elected body comprises 10 councillors who are elected for a term of up to four years by the electors of the parish. A statutory annual meeting is held in May at which the Chairman/Mayor and Vice Chairman of Council are elected by the Council members at the start of the civic year which runs from May to April.
The Council has two part time employees – the Town Clerk and a Market Superintendent.
The Bedale Town Council supplements local government services provided by the Hambleton District and the North Yorkshire County Councils and in addition promotes and represents the town with other national and statutory bodies.
Local Councils act as a sounding board for local opinion and have important rights of consultation. County and District Councils are obliged by law to consult the Local Council on certain matters affecting the parish.
The Town Council welcomes comments/suggestions with regard to council information contained on this site.

Bedale Market Day
|

|
|
Bedale Market Day takes place every Tuesday.
The market offers a wealth of local fresh food produce, plants, clothing and much more!
Over 760 years ago the market charter was granted to the historic town of Bedale allowing the town to hold a market on the Tuesday of each week. For hundreds of years it has been a focal point of trade and commerce.
As High Streets throughout Britain have been battered by out of town shopping and economic uncertainty Bedale market has maintained its presence.
